Resume Writing and Work Search (5 days)

About the workshop

This week-long, ONLINE workshop will help you take the next steps in your career. With the help of an experienced career coach, you will learn how to:

  • Write resumes and cover letters that show your skills and abilities.
  • Apply for work online and learn how employers find employees.
  • Network and introduce yourself to attract job opportunities.
  • Access free resources in the community to help with your job search.

The workshop runs from Monday to Friday.

Each day there will be a 60-90 minute video meeting in the morning. Then, in the afternoon, there will be another 60-90 minute video meeting. The facilitator will ask participants to complete assignments between video meetings. The facilitator will also check in with each participant to provide one-on-one assistance as needed in between video meetings.

How to register

Select a particular session from the list below, review the Participant Requirements on the following page, and provide the requested information. The week before the workshop, you will receive an email to remind you of your registration and to confirm your attendance. On the Friday before your workshop, you will receive an email from the Facilitator with an invitation to the first session on the Monday morning.

With the help of an experienced career coach, you will learn how to write an effective resume and cover letter, how to apply for work online, how to network and introduce yourself, and how to access resouces to help with your job search. 

PARTICIPANT REQUIREMENTS

  • Residency: Participants must be resident of Calgary and area.

  • Digital skills: Participants must:
    • Be comfortable using a computer.
    • Be able to send and receive emails.
    • Be able to browse the internet.
    • Be able to use word processing software such as Microsoft Word or Google Docs.

Note: Computer skills training is available in the Employment Services Directory.

  • Technology: Participants must have:
    • An email address that they check multiple times a day.
    • A phone with the ability to receive voicemails.
    • Access to a laptop or computer – ideally with video chat capabilities (webcam and microphone).
    • Access to software programs such as Microsoft Word or Google Docs for creating documents.
  • English language: Participants must have intermediate English language skills to participate in online discussions and to write their own resume. The language level should be at least Canadian Language Benchmarks (CLBs) of 5 in listening, speaking, reading and writing.
  • Attendance: Participants must attend the full 5-day workshop. Each session is limited to 8 participants.
